The Aga Khan Foundation (UK) (AKF UK) takes your privacy very seriously. This notice describes AKF UK’s privacy policy as it relates to the website at www.akf.org.uk (known as the “Website”). By visiting the Website, you are accepting the policies described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, you are not permitted to use the Website. AKF UK may revise this privacy policy from time to time. We will post any changes here, so please check back periodically.

Collection of Information

AKF UK may ask for and collect personal information from you at various points throughout the Website. Depending on the information and/or services you request, you may be asked to provide your name, email address, address, phone number, payment details and similar information. Once you provide your personal information, you are not anonymous to AKF UK. You may opt out of e-mail communications at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link that is included at the bottom of every email communication from AKF UK (and see also Your Rights, below).

Our Website also collects information as you use the Website, regarding the pages that you visit and the clicks that you make. We do not, however, seek to link this information to your name and other identifying details if you provide them.

Security of Personal Information

Personal information provided through the Website is stored in a cloud-based database which resides at a third-party vendor’s premises. Access to the database is limited to AKF UK’s staff and volunteers. The data can only be accessed through a secure firewall by an individual with a username and password, and who has been given access to the database.

Use of Online Information

AKF UK and its parent organisation, the Aga Khan Development Network, may use the information we collect about you to send you communications such as our e-newsletter and various printed publications or mail appeals, to invite you to events, and to help administer and improve our websites and AKF UK generally. We will not use your information for other purposes except where we are required to do so by law or to co-operate with competent legal or regulatory authorities, or need to do so in order to exercise or defend our own legal rights. We do not sell our organisation’s contact lists to third parties.

Use of Cookies

Cookies are small text-only files that are stored on your computer and that can be used to help identify you when you visit our Website. A cookie cannot read data off your computer hard disk, nor can it read cookie files created by other websites. We may use cookies to make visiting and using our site easier, for instance, so that you do not have to continually re-enter information. We use both “session” cookies, which are in place only through your visit to the Website and then deleted; and “permanent” cookies, which remain on your computer so that our Website recognises you when you return.

Credit Card information

We employ a third-party company, Blackbaud, to process credit and debit card payments. AKF UK neither stores nor has access to any credit or debit card information, and therefore doesn’t use your credit or debit card information for any reason. This Website is not directed toward children under 13 years of age nor does AKF UK knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not submit any personal information to AKF UK.

Who AKF UK shares the information with

AKF UK generally does not share your name, postal address or email address, or any other information about you, with any other organisation except the Aga Khan Development Network. AKF UK may, however, share your information with other third parties in the following situations: a) to complete your request, b) to outsource the hosting, administration or support of the Website or one or more of the other functions described above (including to Blackbaud), c) to share your information with the authorities in response to a legal order or official request, d) where we are required by law to disclose your information or need to do so in order to exercise or defend our legal rights, or e) otherwise with your consent.
